1st day: Arrival of guests at the airport in Bologna, the main town in Emilia to admire its famous monuments: the Basilica di San Petronio and the Palazzo del Podestà, the Garisenda and Asinelli towers, the Basilica di Santo Stefano and its splendid cloister, Neptune’s Fountain and the poet
Giosuè Carducci’s native house. Free time at disposal for lunch and following excursion on Bologna hills to visit the village and the abbey in Monteveglio and later stop-off in the town of Monte San Pietro, an area famous for large-scale production of the wines of the Bologna Hills.Visit of a wine-cellar and tasting of Pignoletto and Lambrusco wines together with local and more modern Cabernet and Chardonnay. Transfer to Castelvetro di Modena, hotel accommodation and welcome dinner with seasonal menu in the hotel. Overnight.
2nd day: In the morning, meeting with the enogastronnomic guide to enter the world of the most famous Italian cheese, the “parmigiano reggiano”: visit of a cheese factory to learn the production’s and seasoning techniques, the continuous checks made by the Consortium and the secrets to buy the best product. Tasting and transfer to Spilamberto into the Consorteria dell’Aceto Balsamico Tradizionale di Modena to enter into the story of “Aceto balsamico (balsamic vinegar)”, to discover its old tradition, rules and ageing technical; tasting of Aceto balsamico and of the bitter “Nocino”; following excursion to Vignola, plunged in a valley rich in cherry-trees. Walk through the old town centre with the majestic medieval stronghold “Rocca dei Contrari”. Light lunch in a typical restaurant. In the afternoon, return to Castelvetro di Modena, for a walk in the historical centre and a visit of the Museum of Renaissance Costumes and Piazza Castello, venue every 2 years of the historical re-enactment the “Dama Vivente” ( Living Draughts: competition on the giant chess
board in the Castle Piazza). In the late afternoon…cooking lesson with a local chef who will explain the preparation of pasta and the typical “tortelli all’emiliana” with Bolognese ragout. Dinner in a restaurant with tasting of the learned menu. Overnight.
3rd day: Breakfast and following departure for Modena for a guided visit of the historical centre with the Cathedral (world heritage site by UNESCO), Palazzo Ducale, Galleria Estense, Piazza Grande and the famous leaning bell tour known as the “Ghirlandina”, now symbol of the town. Light lunch in an historical café in the centre. Stop-off in Savignano sul Panaro to to enter the world of the production and seasoning of raw ham, one of the most important brand in the area, tasting. Departure of guests for the airport. End of the tour.
